Diets Can Work
Diets Can Work
I’m going to go against the grain here – recently there have been a lot of nutritionists shouting ‘DIETS DON’T WORK’, and I have written articles on this very website saying categorically that dieting doesn’t work. But I want to put another spin on the subject. Diets can work, the truth of the matter is this, if you want to lose weight you have to significantly change the way you eat, uh…yeah…. that’s going on a diet.
This is literally the only way to lose weight, unless of course, you plan to spend 8 hours a day in the gym. Whether you are cutting calories, fat, or carbs – you are definitely going to have to cut something, it is an unfortunate truth, you can’t continue to eat french fries, chocolate, cakes and cookies and still hope to lose weight, that’s just obvious.
The received wisdom today seems to be, simply eat a balanced healthy diet and you will eventually lose weight – note the word eventually. I am full of admiration for those few people that can actually do this, just cut down on a few things, lose a couple of pounds every month and reach their target weight in 3 years time, the self discipline and patience required to achieve this is truly admirable.
However, most people who are trying to lose weight are simply not like that, and I include myself here. We go from diet to diet every Monday morning, trying and failing time after time to shed the fat, and we’re certainly not willing to wait years to do it either. We want to lose at least 8lbs a month or more if possible, and, it is possible if you a) find a diet that suits you, and b) stick to it.
The fact that 99% of all diets fail has led the ‘experts’ to conclude that dieting doesn’t work. Well it’s not the diets that don’t work – believe me if you stick to any well known, mainstream diet you will lose weight, it’s the dieter that doesn’t work!
Now granted, going on certain, crazy fad type diets is counter-productive because of the way it messes up your metabolism, causes you to lose muscle instead of fat and generally makes your life a misery. But I’m not talking about those extreme diets, I’m talking about making a significant change to the way you eat for the amount of time it takes you to achieve the body of your dreams and then maintaining that healthy body by eating in a balanced way, that, to my mind, is a weight loss diet.
So the crux of the dieting problem is this; sticking to a diet is really hard work, that is why they fail 99% of the time. So I propose, rather than just writing off dieting as a solution to our weight loss woes, we should be looking at how to deal with our compulsions, addictions, habits and cravings that cause us to fall off the dieting wagon so often. If you were easily, able to stick to any diet you chose, surely then losing weight simply wouldn’t be a problem anymore.
There is a way forward, it involves changing your mindset, and harnessing the power of your subconscious mind to help you stick to any diet you choose. I’m talking about a set powerful, proven tools and strategies for personal transformation, that once learned will enable you to achieve any goal you want. Luckily these strategies are easy to learn and abundantly available to you.
